How do I take care of my dentures?
Regular cleaning and checkups are essential for keeping your dentures in top shape. Even if your dentures are in perfect condition, it is important to see your dentist regularly. During your visit, we will assess how your dentures are fitting and check your gums, tongue, jaw, and mouth for any signs of concern. We care about your complete oral health, not just your teeth.
- Remove your dentures overnight to allow your mouth to rest
- Soak your dentures in warm water with or without denture cleanser
- If your dentures have metal clasps, soak them in warm water only
- Keep dentures in water when you are not wearing them to prevent drying out and warping
- Never soak dentures in hot water
- Clean and massage your gums when your dentures are removed
- If a toothbrush hurts your gums, try running it under warm water or use a finger wrapped in a damp cloth
- If you have partial dentures, brush your natural teeth as usual

Frequently Asked Questions
If you need to replace just a few missing teeth, dental bridges can be a great option. For replacing any number of missing teeth, dental implants offer a longer lasting solution. While implants typically come with a higher upfront cost, they also offer greater stability and have specific health requirements for candidates.
With proper care and maintenance, dentures can last between 5 and 10 years. However, as your mouth changes over time, you may eventually find that it is necessary to get a new set of dentures for the best fit and comfort.
While it is possible to wear your dentures while you sleep, it is recommended that you remove them at night. Taking them out allows you to clean your mouth, gums, and remaining natural teeth, while also giving your gums and jaw a chance to rest.
Your top dentures should create a gentle suction with your gums, while your bottom dentures should stay in place easily without moving around. Partial dentures should align with your natural teeth and stay securely in place. Implant supported dentures are designed to snap into place and stay stable. If you have concerns about the fit of your dentures, feel free to schedule an appointment so we can check and make any necessary adjustments.
Once you have adjusted to wearing your dentures, you should be able to eat most foods. However, there are some that may cause discomfort or damage. Hard or sticky foods like caramel, raw carrots, or tough cuts of meat, as well as foods with small particles like popcorn or seeded crackers, may present challenges. It is best to enjoy these foods occasionally and in moderation.
